The Third Weekend In June

Something funny happened on the way to July...we're getting sunshine. Whereas May saw so many days with periods of rain, June has brought us lots of sunshine. The air is warm, the flowers are growing and we are wearing sunglasses when traveling to estate sales. The third weekend in June brought us a beautiful weekend which reminded us of exactly what time of year it was. It would have been a great day to go saling all day but there weren't enough sales to make this a reality. We only saw one worthwhile sale all weekend and we weren't even sure that would be a good one. The sale was described as "Collectors Finds". There were pictures of some old games, books and miscellaneous things but nothing that made us want to get up early and be amongst the first on line. It was close to home and was run by one of our favorite estate sale companies so it had those things going for it. We were hoping for the best.

Our intention wasn't to wake up early just to go to this sale but we woke up early anyway. After coffee/tea, showers and getting dressed, we left to go to the sale. We were 45 minutes early but not even close to the beginning of the line. When it opened, we still had to wait to get inside.

There were three floors to search. The main one had lots of stuff but not much for us. The basement had lots of stuff but not much for us either aside from those Tom and Jerry bowls and mugs. We almost bought them but remembered that we have so many and decided not to buy any more that day.

It was the third floor that made this sale worthwhile. There were several sports games here but none that excited Rob enough to entice him to buy them. We were focused on the boxes that we found in this room and all of the Christmas stuff inside of them! There were a lot of wooden ornaments and a lot of newer ornaments that were of no interest to us. There were also lots of Shiny Brite ornaments but, like the Tom and Jerry bowls and mugs, we probably have more than we can ever use so we passed on those. What we did take home were some great ceramic decorations marked Japan. We picked up a few other things, too. It was our only sale of the weekend but we were very pleased by what we found. Here is a look at our "treasures":

A Bonanza Christmas record! Christmas On The Ponderosa!

A couple of books

A small 1960's Mr.s Beasley and an old Pez dispenser with no feet (late 1960's)

Vintage cookie cutter sets

Lots of ceramic Christmas decorations (all marked Japan) and a vintage snowman Christmas light

Sunday with Father's Day and we made our annual "I Am Your Father" Father's Day brownies! The brownies were a hit as was the Father's Day celebration with Monica's dad at Monica's sister's house. Sunday was a long day and we had a long week ahead of us but not that long. We had a vacation day that next Friday. We would get through the week looking ahead to our next weekend together!

  4. Ha Ha! We had to do a second look through our finds before we left to make sure we weren't missing any of the letters of "Noel"! We were fortunate enough to find that Darth Vader at a thrift shop about 6 years ago or so. One look at it and we knew it's destiny! (Rob)
