June Arrives

If the title of this post seems dated, it's because it is. We know. June arrived a month ago but we have been pretty busy this month and time got away from us. Now it's time to catch up!

May was not the best month for saling but we did hit pockets of success. We were looking for deeper pockets in June. The first weekend of the month offered us two sales of interest. The first was over forty miles away and began at 8am so an early start was important. It was described as "Estate sale - full contents" and the few pictures that supported the ad showed an older house. We had no idea what the contents would be like but we were intrigued enough to get that early start and make it to our destination near its start. 

Our first sale was in the country. Our first hint was that this was the view across the street from the house. There's a horse in the background.

Our second was that this John Deere mower was on the front lawn and for sale. 

This was the house and before Rob can even snap a photo, Monica was halfway up the driveway. 

The back of the property was pretty big but there was nothing for sale back there. 

We could have gone dumpster diving but we opted to go inside instead.

The kitchen was old. Look at those cabinets. Look at that yellow sink!

Rob loves room divider rounded shelves and these were great ones! 

The main floor had lots of NASCAR scale models which did not interest us at all. This car collector case caught Rob's eye but we did not buy it.

The downstairs had a great basement bar! We liked this one a lot! 

There was a stage in the basement which we are sure was used at many basement parties many decades ago. There was no mistaking that we were in the country. Aside from the microphone, there was a mouth harp and a washtub bass.

Check out that sink. The house, itself, was more impressive than the actual contents of the house. We would have fun even if we brought nothing home but we did. We found lots of records and one book to our liking.

As is our habit after our first sale or two, we stop for breakfast before continuing on. This place was quaint and just the kind of place you would expect to find in the rural areas in our neck of the woods. The food was great but we couldn't stay here all day. We had one more sale on our list.

Sale #2 turned out to be a little bit of a surprise. It was listed as a multi-generational accumulation with a packed house. He thought it would be a family run sale like the first one but it wasn't. It was run by a tag sale company that has a sale about once per month and they are often good. This one would be one of them.

Several rooms were packed. This was a closet in the first room we visited. Is that Captain Kangaroo we see?

It was! Unfortunately, it was missing a piece so we left it behind.

This was pretty cool, too, but there was no way of knowing whether it was complete so we left it behind, too.

There were lots of small stuff in boxes in this room. We spent some time rummaging through them all.

That's a great couch. It wasn't our favorite color but we liked its style. 

The bathroom floor quietly said 1960's. The walls were not quiet at all! 

We spent considerable time at this house and did pretty well. We brought home lots of stuff including a lot of holiday stuff! From there, we went home to relax and enjoy the beginning of June. 

We love growing flowers and some vegetables in our garden. The weather this spring (lots of rain but not enough sun) caused everything to bloom a little later this year. Our peonies finally bloomed.

On Saturday night, we went to the annual Greek Festival in our town. There isn't a lot there. There are the typical kiddie rides and the carnival games, of course, but we mostly just go for the food. Gyros! 

We also like to walk around the inside of the Greek church which has such beautiful artwork.

We never stay more than an hour but we have fun here every year together! 

We spent Sunday running our errands, doing chores around the house and finding some time to relax. Of course, we also took some time to look at our finds from Saturday and this is what we saw:

It was a fun weekend and a great start to June. We hope our saling adventures the rest of the month are as good as they were this first weekend. We will see...
