Closing Out June

June was a month reminiscent of summer which is not unusual as that is how it should be. The sunshine associated with the season took a long time to arrive but there is no mistaken that summer has actually arrived just as the calendar told us it would. We were looking forward to another sunny weekend but, before we even got to the weekend, we had things to do.

On Tuesday, we had a birthday to celebrate as Marissa turned 13!

On Wednesday, it was time to go see  Ron Swoboda of the 1969 World Champion New York Mets. He was at a local bookstore to sign his new book.

Ron spoke for 30 minutes before the signing and he was very entertaining and very funny!

There we are with Ron Swoboda!

Ron's new book

He personalized it for us!

When Saturday came around, we were ready for some saling. We identified four possible sales but the one we liked best was isolated and we knew that going to this one would make it our only one for the day. We had a surprise 50th birthday party to attend that evening and we would not have time for more than one sale if we chose this one. We chose this one.

We arrived at the sale about one hour before its start which wasn't too difficult since it didn't start until 10am. Despite the 45 minute drive, we were here early but not early enough to get near the front of the line. We were $20 and #21 which shouldn't have really surprised us. The sale was described as "Vintage Toy Madness" and its pictures supported that claim. The sale was run by one of our favorite tag sale companies and that was good as we like to see friendly faces. The regulars salers that we are accustomed to seeing weren't here. It was pretty far out east and a lot of people won't travel that far. We do.

The basement was the place to be and that was the place we found ourselves first despite the fact that earliest arrivals were down there a good thirty minutes before we ever got a glance at it. There were so many great things down there!

Toys weren't the only things in that basement. There were also lots of books.

There was so much of everything and Monica looks really happy about that!

And, if your thing is old perfumes and colognes, this sale had that, too. The one thing we missed out was a majority of the Christmas stuff and there were some good things down here but an earlier group of salers got to those first. We spent about an hour and a half in that basement and only about five minutes total  on the main floor and on the upper level. There was nothing there for us. When we left, we did see some familiar faces on line who, for once, arrived later than we did. They saw us leave with lots of stuff and hopefully they found some stuff for them, too.

After getting some late breakfast and then going home to rest, we had the surprise birthday party that night which was fun. On Sunday, we had a chance to do our errands, our chores and to get some rest and, of course, look at our new stuff. This is what we saw:

A pair of records

A book on dinosaurs from 1960 that Rob remembers reading as a kid

Some books from the 1950's and 1960's

B.C. paperbacks

More B.C. paperbacks

Wizard of Id paperbacks

Two more books

Some old tin toys

The two tin eggs in the previous picture have tin wind-up chicks inside of them.

Some holiday decorations

Sole old Easter decorations

An old pony squeak toy, a Pink Panther, an egg laying duck, a wind-up monster and an Popeye walker toy

Some old Christmas things

Two Aurora Prehistoric Scenes models in their boxes

A 1961 Charley Weaver battery powered tin toy in its box. It still was covered in its cardboard wrapping inside. It had never been used!

It may have only been one sale but it was a great one and, most importantly, we had a great time together. We'll see you in our next post where we continue our adventures in July; together amongst the ducks.

  1. I love "virtually" yard saling with you guys, it hits that "discover/delight" button in my brain without filling up my own house! In all seriousness, though, you guys find so many cool things - do you keep them all, or sell any? I'm going through a bit of a purge mode with stuff in our basement recently, so I'm curious what you do with your stuff after the hunt/find/delight/share mode :-)

  2. Thanks, Mod Betty! We're happy to be virtually saling with you! We do not sell anything though, every few years or so, we have a garage sale to purge duplicate items or things we no longer love. We do have a storage space to rotate holiday decor and furniture for which we currently do not have room (Rob)

  3. My favorite of your finds this time are the plastic easter bunny candy container and the plastic snowman!
