Easter and Monica's Birthday Week 2020

The world is not yet back to normal. We're not even close but we're not forgetting how to live. We're learning how to adapt and make the best of what there is. Easter was not a big family get together this year but we made the most of it.

We dyed Easter eggs though we only dyed six of them and we did not decorate them with messages as we usually do. We didn't want to make an extra trip outside to get more eggs not did we want to make a trip to our storage space to get the rest of the Easter decorations which includes the crayons we use to write messages on the eggs. These six were fine.

We decided to make our annual vintage lamb cake even if we would be the only two people to see it in person.

We had one little problem. We did not make the the two halves of the mold tight enough when it went into the oven and we lost a good portion of the cake when it spilled out of the side. We had half a cake and we decorated it well but it was never going to stand.

Our 2020 lamb cake was not as goof as last year's cake...

...but it was so much better than our first effort years ago when it looked like a cross between a lamb and a Dr. Seuss character which became the infamous "Lamb I Am" incident!

We did manage to get this year's Pez offerings when out doing our one weekly shopping trip.

We made a ham (which wound up being leftovers for an entire week) and the appropriate sides for our own Easter dinner and we had a Zoom session with Monica's sister, brother-in law and the kids so we did see family for Easter...digitally.

The end of the week brought us Monica's birthday (though this is from a few years ago). We couldn't follow through on the plans we had but we will have a bigger celebration when everything gets back to normal. We didn't ignore it though!

Rob brought home roses. They weren't from a florist as those businesses are closed for now but he did find some decent ones at the supermarket which would have to do for now.

Monica didn't want a cake as we had been eating cake all week (the lamb cake). Monica baked an apple pie and we put a birthday candle in it and Rob sang his best version of "Happy Birthday".

Later that evening, we did another Zoom session with Monica's sister and brother-in-law and the kids joined in to sing "Happy Birthday" again!

Weekends are quiet and we miss estate saling a lot but life will eventually return to normal. For now, we have our garden which is starting to come to life.

Our hyacinths have peaked.

Our creeping phlox plant is starting to bloom too.

We have our garden and we have each other and that is enough to keep us smiling!
